Why X has no download button
X streams videos in short segments and does not offer a save option, so the only built-in way to keep a video is to bookmark the post. Each upload is also stored as a set of MP4 files at different resolutions. This tool looks up the post through the TwexAPI public data API and lists those MP4 files so you can download one directly from X’s media servers (video.twimg.com).
Download videos in bulk or from code
To save media from many posts, a whole account or a search, use the TwexAPI tweet lookup endpoint. It returns the same MP4 variants for a batch of post IDs in one request, priced at about $0.05 per 1,000 posts. New accounts get 20,000 free Credits.
FAQ
Is this Twitter video downloader free?
Yes. Downloading videos, GIFs and photos from public posts is free, with a fair-use limit of 30 posts per hour per network. You do not need an account.
What quality can I download?
Every MP4 rendition X serves for the video, usually 1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p, with the resolution and bitrate shown for each. Photos download as the original upload.
How do I download a Twitter video on iPhone or Android?
Copy the post link from the X app (Share, then Copy link), open this page in Safari or Chrome, paste the link and tap Download. On iPhone, tap the share icon on the video that opens and choose Save Video.
Can I download GIFs from X?
Yes. X stores GIFs as short MP4 files, so they download as MP4. You can convert the MP4 to GIF with any video converter.
Can I download videos from private accounts?
No. Only media from public posts can be downloaded. Posts from protected, suspended or deleted accounts are not available.
Does the account owner know I downloaded their video?
No. X does not notify anyone about downloads, and the lookup runs through TwexAPI rather than your X account.
Is it legal to download Twitter videos?
Saving a public video for personal viewing is generally fine, but the video still belongs to its creator. Ask for permission before reposting or using it commercially, and follow X’s terms.
Is TwexAPI affiliated with X?
No. TwexAPI is an independent third-party provider of public social data and is not affiliated with or endorsed by X Corp.
